Visit of Volunteers from IIT
Aman, Apekshit Solanki, Tulsi Jain, students from IIT-Delhi and Apeksha, CA finalist visited NLR office and NLR projects in the field from 4 - 27 June 2012. They visited some of the colonies in Delhi and Dehradun to get to know the life of leprosy affected people in leprosy colonies.
Updating & Review Meeting of NLR staff
A meeting of all NLR staff was organized on 1-2 June 2012 at Delhi to discuss the progress during 1st quarter and update them with recent developments. New staff was introduced to all. Doctors and coordinators presented their activities and other gave their feedback on further improvements and directions to go ahead. Fund utilization, results to achieve and coordination with government staff were common issue. Progress on self-care projects and education support was discussed in detail. Files-folder (records) keeping in computers and quarterly report and issues related to accounts were explained.
SAFRG Fundraising Campaign of the Year Award
NLR India won the “SAFRG Fundraising Campaign of the Year Award” in the New Media category at the recently concluded South Asian Fund Raising Summit held in New Delhi on December 3-4, 2011. The Award has been instituted to recognize successful and innovative campaigns in fundraising and entries were invited in 5 categories from South Asia.
The Award was presented at a glittering ceremony on December 3, 2011.
NLR Country Policy Workshop
NLR India country policy development workshop was held at Agra from 1-4 November 2011. 25 participants including Mr. Rens Verstappen, Head Project Department, NLR Amsterdam, Mr. Daan Ponsteen, Project Officer, NLR Amsterdam, ILEP member reps. Central Leprosy Division, NLR staff, other NGOs and persons affected by leprosy participated as major stakeholders. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Jos Brand.
Sijmen Tenwolde and Rikus Wegman, the International Ambassadors or “World Guests” from the Nationale Post Code Loterij visited NLR India from Oct 27 to Nov 5, 2011. They were here to see the NLR’s projects in India.
Their visit started with attending the leprosy OPD clinic at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Dr. Kar, Dean, School of Medicine was conducting the clinic and showed many types of leprosy.
Strategic Review NLR India
For development of country policy, for India for the coming five years, a strategic review of NLR functioning in India was undertaken from 3rd – 15th Oct 2011. This review was conducted by an independent group of two members Dr. P. L. Joshi, Dr P.L. Joshi, former program manager Indian leprosy program and Mr. Leon Bijlmakers, ETC Crystal, international public health consultant.
Felicitation to Dr. Krishnamurthy, former ILEP National Coordinator
A meeting of representatives of ILEP India was held recently in New Delhi on March 17-18, 2011. All major stakeholders of the National Leprosy Eradication programme participated in the meeting. An important activity was welcoming the new coordinating agency NLR and bidding farewell to the outgoing agency DFIT.
Dr. P Krishnamurthy, the outgoing ILEP National Coordinator was felicitated by the representative of NLR India, Dr. M. A.Arif. Thanking DFIT for its coordination in the last three years.
Mr. Douglas Soutar, General Secretary, ILEP said that he was satisfied to see cultivation of relationships, collaborations and increasing cooperation of ILEP representatives in India which has ultimately helped in developing rehabilitation services for persons affected by leprosy. Various issues related to support to NLEP were discussed.
Visit of Mr. Yohei Sasakawa to NLR India
It was great pleasure of NLR staff to meet Mr. Yohei Sasakawa on 2nd March 2011. Mr. Sasakawa visited NLR India office in Delhi with his team viz. Ms. K. Yamaguchi, Mr. Tatsuya Tanami, Mr. Jonathan Lloyd-Owen, Ms. Chikako Awazu, and other support staff of Sasakawa & Nippon Foundation.
Health Camp, 10 Feb 2011
People Affected by Leprosy (PAL) hesitate seeking health care from health care facilities because of fear of being ostracized by the general public. This health seeking behavior of PAL leads to the neglect of their health. Realizing the health care need of PAL, an initiative of holding health camps in Kusht Ashrams of Delhi has been taken by NLR India. Continuing the chain of such services camp, one more health camp was organized in West Delhi.
Leprosy Day Celebrations
In India, Leprosy Day is celebrated on every 30th January, being the Martyr's day, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This year the World Leprosy Day (celebrated on last Sunday of January) coincided with Leprosy Day of India. It was celebrated with full of enthusiasm by involving school / college students, organizing awareness camps, distribution of aids and appliances etc. A glimpse of activities with photographs, gives an idea as to how the Leprosy Day was celebrated in NLR supported districts and states.
