GOI

GOI started its National Leprosy Control Programme (NLCP) in the year 1955, which was later converted as National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) from the year 1983. This was started as a vertical programme with introduction of Multi Drug Therapy (MDT) and later integrated into General Health Care (GHC) Services gradually from the year 2002. Now the programme is fully integrated and all the leprosy services are provided free of cost through General Health Care infrastructure.

A joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), between ILEP members active in India and GOI, have been signed for a period from 2007-2012. This MOU contains the thematic areas of support, which will be provided by ILEP to National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) of India.
